invaginated odontome

Just very recently I had a client with something I had never seen before affecting one of their upper lateral incisor teeth. The tooth had a developmental condition called an ‘invaginated odontome’. This is a rare condition where the surface of the tooth as it grows, folds in on itself to create an almost ‘pocket’ within the tooth. As this internal pocket is connected to the mouth through a very small opening it often leads to the death of the tooth shortly after it erupts and in many cases the formation of a root tip cyst (see the black area on the x ray below around the root tip).  In the majority of cases to treat the tooth often leads to its unfortunate removal as conventional root canal treatment, due to the complex anatomy present is very likely to fail.

 

Denture dissatisfaction

A welcome short break has begun following what has been a very busy and hectic few weeks at ‘blueapple’. In amid organising a new surgery and finalising designs, getting accounts ready, advertising for new staff (by the way we are starting to shortlist for a new nurse), getting a personal building project off the ground, finishing a renovation for a new tenant and finalising our education programme  we have been pushing forward our level of customer service and I have been looking after our clients in the surgery. Its been busy, taxing and stressful but the last client of the day yesterday sent the whole team away with a warm glow to work our way through our chocolate mountains. WHY?

We treat a lot of clients who have been suffering with full dentures for many years and have either just accepted that what they are experiencing is normal or that no other options exist. Thankfully modern dentistry ensures that this is not the case and in many instances the move from what can be a debilitating situation is indeed possible. The cause of our glow was a lovely client who was just as I have described above. 4-5 months later, 4 implants, restored function and a fantastic new smile, life has taken a new direction for her and we are all delighted to have been able to help.

Are you in this situation and feeling that you have no way of improving your quality of life? or simply feel that you are past help?…. well please don’t resign yourself to your current situation, help is available and it may be simpler than you first thought.

Claire Balding puts her foot in it

I was shocked that as this experienced sports journalist interviewed the grand national winning jockey on one of the biggest days of his life she could only think about asking him about his teeth. 

The poor guy was so embarrassed that something that obviously causes him personal concern was brought to attention on national television. Claire Balding’s ignorance made me grimace and my heart went out to him as I understand fully just how he must feel as I have seen many people in his situation.

It is amazing just how many people are in the same situation as this jockey, personally embarrassed by their smile and inhibited by it on a daily basis. For those that are able pluck up the courage and motivation to see someone who can help them the experience can be truly life changing on many levels.

It is this aspect of what the team at ‘blueapple’ do that fills us with the most pride and satisfaction and never fails to amaze us just how even the smallest treatments can make such huge differences.

New surgery

This week we have been putting the final touches to the planning of our new surgery for Ciara. Representing a significant investment we are delighted to be working with a professional, courteous and helpful team of suppliers and designers. A new start

In a few weeks we will have the start of a new era in ‘Blueapple’ which we are very excited by. At long last we will have another full time dentist starting with the team. Local lady Ciara McGinley originally from our neighbouring border village Blacklion begins the next stage of her career at the start of May. Graduating from Dublin and working locally  since, we are delighted to welcome Ciara to Blueapple and look forward to developing the rewarding relationship built up over the past 3 months further for the benefit of our client base.
